chladni plate drawing machine
a chladni plate is metal sheet vibrated at one of its resonant frequencies. the two-dimensional waves form patterns of nodes and antinodes on the surface. when sand is placed on the sheet the node lines, or lines of minimal motion, collect the sand while the regions of higher motion bounce the sand away. tuning the plate to different resonant frequencies will produce different patterns. for this piece i capture the patterns that the sand forms with adhesive.
